Be The Solution, Inc. was established by Tim and Gerry Phipps in 2007 as a 501©(3) non-profit organization due to their concern with the growing pet overpopulation problem in Tallahassee Florida. It was Mrs. and Mr. Phipps thought that: “If more people would get their pets “fixed”, we could stop the problem before it starts by reducing the number of unwanted litters born in our community”. On average, the Leon County Animal Services Center (local shelter) receives over 10,000 dogs and cats a year and approximately 50 % or 5000 of these pets are euthanized.
The mission of Be the Solution, Inc. is to provide financial assistance to those who cannot afford the cost of a spay or neuter surgery and to educate area residents about the benefits of having their pet spayed or neutered. Be the Solution, Inc. works very hard every year to support this mission by holding fundraisers and spreading our spay and neuter message.
Thanks to the support and generosity of several local veterinarians with surgery prices and the funds BTS raises yearly, we have been able set up a low cost voucher program for area residents. This year we opened the doors to a BTS Tallahassee Mall storefront, located just two doors down from Barnes and Nobles. This easily accessible public location, with bus line access is where BTS hands out 25 spay and neuter vouchers every Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00am - 1:00pm. Voucher applicants must meet all voucher requirements, fill out an application, provide a proof of need and once approved will be able to get their dog or cat fixed for only a $5.00 co-pay. This co-pay ensures client contribution and investment in solving their own problems.
BTS also offers a kid friendly education curriculum, where we go out into the community and spread the spay and neuter message. Last summer the BTS Education program was taught at several city and school programs in Tallahassee and reached almost 1,000 kids with our important message.
